For years the island Mainau has been a tour destination for us again and again, which we like to head for!
In the course of the last 12 months we have been there several times and therefore I have worked out a tour proposal that, accompanied by many pictures, shows the beauty of this island but also other sightseeings along the way.
The main destination of this tour is therefore the island Mainau! As the pictures of this tour show, the island Mainau is always worth a visit! From the end of March to the end of October, the viewer is offered new insights into the world of flowers and plants again and again: at the beginning the impressive tulip show and the orchid house near the castle, then the rhododendron and the roses, later the varied dahlia show. In addition, the butterfly house and many other blossoms and flowers throughout the season - simply beautiful!
A visit to the monkey mountain Salem (open-air enclosure with Barbary monkeys and many storks) can also be integrated. Also worth seeing are Meersburg, Überlingen, Konstanz and the wall relief at the town hall of Ludwigshafen on Lake Constance.
The tour leads mainly on less frequented routes first from Sonthofen over the Riedbergpass to Hittisau. From there it continues via Egg, Schwarzenberg and the Bödele to Dornbirn. Then on towards Lustenau. Over the Swiss border to Au. There - straight on at the roundabout - further up to Schachen and Oberegg. Here the route up to St. Anton branches off to the left. At the top there is a wonderful view down into the Rhine valley and to the old towns and on the other side to Lake Constance.
The tour continues via Trogen to St. Gallen. There follow the signs to Wittenbach. Passing Amriswil, the tour continues to Kreuzlingen and right across Konstanz to Mainau Island.
After visiting the island of Mainau (duration approx. 2 ½ hrs) we continue via Dettingen towards Bodman and then on to Ludwigshafen. Here the relief at the town hall is worth a visit! Via Überlingen the trail then continues to Salem. (Alternatively to the trip via Ludwigshafen, Salem can also be reached by ferry (Konstanz - Meersburg)). Before reaching the town, a small road branches off to the right towards Affenberg. If there is still enough time, a visit should be made! Via Deggenhausen the tour leads to Oberteurigen and Meckenbeuren. From there via Tettnang further on towards Wangen. Shortly before the village, turn right towards Hergatz. Via Opfenbach and Heimenkirch the tour goes to Steinegaden and Röthenbach. Further on finally via Siberatshofen and Missen to Immenstadt and back to Sonthofen.
Total distance approx. 300 km
