First you have to reach Bolzano from Montan via Ora and Laives and drive through the centre of the town in the direction of Val Sarentino and then turn left to reach the turn-off to Jenesien. From here, the road continues to climb uphill on a well-developed wide road - accompanied by beautiful views of Bolzano. After Jenesien the road becomes narrower and remains so until Mölten. There the tour turns right and leads via Vöran to Haflings and on to Meran. There keep left and follow the signs to Lana. From there the Ulten Valley (turn left) is signposted.
Follow the road past the Zoggler reservoir to the end of the valley at the Weissbrunnsee. Here you can take a break at the Gasthof Knödlmoidl.
Go back to the turn-off in the direction of Laurein. There turn right and via Leurein to Fondo. Here begins the short but great section up to the Mendelpass. At the top of the pass, the path branches off to the left up to Monte Penegal. Those who have been here before will always like to go up again, because the view down into the valley of Bozen to beyond Lake Caldaro is simply beautiful!
After this detour we return to the pass summit of the Mendel Pass and from there we continue towards Kaltern. Turn right over S. Nikolaus and you reach the main road to Lake Kaltern. Turn right there and then immediately left towards Laimburg. After a few kilometres over the hill you reach Auer and from there Montan.
